Find out if your BMI falls into the underweight range
⚠️ This tool estimates BMI only and does not diagnose anorexia nervosa. If you're struggling with eating or weight concerns, please speak to a doctor or therapist.
What Does an “Anorexic BMI” Mean?
The term “anorexic BMI” is often used informally to refer to a body mass index that falls into the underweight category (BMI less than 18.5). Anorexia nervosa is a serious mental health condition, but a low BMI alone does not confirm the diagnosis – many people with anorexia have a normal or even above‑normal weight, and not everyone with a low BMI has an eating disorder.
BMI Categories (WHO)
- Underweight: BMI < 18.5
- Normal weight: BMI 18.5 – 24.9
- Overweight: BMI 25 – 29.9
- Obese: BMI ≥ 30
If your result shows you are underweight, it’s important to remember that BMI is only a screening tool. It doesn’t account for muscle mass, bone density, or overall health. Always talk to a healthcare professional if you’re worried about your weight or relationship with food.
