What is Rounding?
Rounding replaces a number with a simpler, approximate value that has fewer digits, while staying as close as possible to the original. It’s widely used in everyday math, financial calculations, statistics, and science to make numbers easier to work with and communicate.

Rounding Methods Explained
Standard (half away from zero)
If the digit to be dropped is 5 or more, round away from zero. Examples: 2.5 → 3, -2.5 → -3. This is the most common method taught in schools.
Half up (toward +∞)
With a 5, always round towards positive infinity. Example: -2.5 → -2 (because -2 > -2.5).
Half down (toward zero)
Dropped digit is 5? Round towards zero. 2.5 → 2, -2.5 → -2.
Banker’s rounding (half to even)
If the digit to be dropped is exactly 5, round to the nearest even number. This reduces cumulative rounding error in large datasets. 2.5 → 2, 3.5 → 4.
Ceiling
Always round up to the next number. 2.1 → 3 (if integer), -2.1 → -2.
Floor
Always round down. 2.9 → 2, -2.9 → -3.
