- 20% tip: Double the 10% amount. For $48.00: 10% = $4.80 × 2 = $9.60.

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Etiquette experts generally recommend tipping on the pre-tax subtotal, not the total including tax. However, most people tip on the final total out of convenience, and the difference is usually minimal. Either approach is acceptable — use whichever feels right to you.
How do I split a bill with friends when everyone ordered different items?
