🤰 Pregnancy Weight Gain Calculator
Based on IOM guidelines – know your healthy range by week
⚕️ This tool provides estimates based on IOM (Institute of Medicine) guidelines. Always follow your doctor’s advice.
Why Tracking Pregnancy Weight Gain Matters
Gaining the right amount of weight during pregnancy supports your baby’s development and reduces risks. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) provides evidence-based ranges based on your pre-pregnancy BMI.
How the Calculator Works
Enter your height and pre-pregnancy weight to determine your BMI category. Then add your current week and (optionally) your current weight. The tool shows:
- Your BMI category and recommended total weight gain range for the whole pregnancy.
- The expected weight gain range by your current week, assuming a healthy pattern.
- A live comparison if you provide your current weight – see if you’re below, within, or above the ideal bracket.
Weight Gain Guidelines (IOM)
| Pre-pregnancy BMI | Total Gain (kg) | Total Gain (lbs) |
|---|---|---|
| Underweight (<18.5) | 12.5 – 18 | 28 – 40 |
| Normal weight (18.5–24.9) | 11.5 – 16 | 25 – 35 |
| Overweight (25–29.9) | 7 – 11.5 | 15 – 25 |
| Obese (≥30) | 5 – 9 | 11 – 20 |
Rates in the second and third trimesters vary; the tool uses typical weekly gains for a smooth projection.
